ALPHA GAMMA DELTAis considered a new chapter at OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY at least for one more year. This is our fifth year on campus. I believe we have done an excellent job of spreading our values and mission. However, we are a new chapter which means we still have a lot of work to do. This is who we are and what we stand for.... Inspire the Woman, Impact the World
Mission: Alpha Gamma Delta is an international sorority for women that exists to provide opportunities for personal development through the spirit of Sisterhood.
- We support lifelong learning as a means to gain understanding - We promote the value of membership and commitment to a higher education - We help prepare members to contribute to the World's work - We advocate lifetime involvement in Alpha Gamma Delta
Every chapter is congruent & incongruent to their mission at some point and AGD is no different.
CONGRUENT: *LIVE BY OUR PURPOSE *community service, volunteering, etc. *sisterhoods, cherishing friendships with everyone we meet. *academic success *HONESTY
INCONGRUENT: *disobeying our purpose and our beliefs. *not following through or not giving your word. *negativity *focusing on social events more than philantrophy or other important events. *cheating.
I try my best to follow ALPHA GAMMA DELTA's mission statement and purpose. Together as a whole there is always room for improvement. Overall, I think we do a great job showing who we are and how great our chapter really is. And that speaks for all chapters. We all stand for the best and we all have ideals.
The Make A Wish Foundation is one of the largest wish granting organizations in the WORLD! The Foundation started with this first wish :
The Make-A-Wish Foundation® traces its beginning to one boy’s wish. In 1980, 7-year-old Chris Greicius was being treated for leukemia. Every day, he dreamed of becoming a police officer.U.S. Customs Officer Tommy Austin had befriended Chris and his mother, Linda Bergendahl-Pauling. He also promised Chris a ride in a police helicopter. When Chris’ health worsened, Austin contacted Ron Cox, an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer, and planned a day that would lift Chris’ spirits. On April 29, 1980, Austin and a caring group of DPS personnel started Chris’ day with a tour of the city in a department helicopter, which also flew him to headquarters. Three cruisers and a motorcycle officer greeted him before his meeting with the DPS command staff. There, Chris was sworn in as the first honorary DPS patrolman in state history. But his experience didn’t stop there. Cox contacted John’s Uniforms, which agreed to make a custom-tailored DPS uniform for Chris. The store owner and two seamstresses worked through the night to finish it. The officers presented the official uniform to Chris on May 1 and arranged a motorcycle proficiency test so he could earn wings to pin on his uniform. Needless to say, Chris passed the test with flying colors on his battery-operated motorcycle. On May 2, Chris was back in the hospital. He asked to arrange the room so he could always see his uniform, his motorcycle helmet and his “Smokey Bear”-style campaign hat. DPS motor officer Frank Shankwitz presented Chris with his motorcycle wings. He accepted them with a smile that lit up the room. The following day, Chris passed away, but not before seeing his dream come true and experiencing the hope, strength and joy that came from receiving his wish.
The foundation is all about lifting spirits and granting wishes to children with life threatening medical conditions. The first wish is just so inspiring knowing that one little boy had his dream come true before died. And not to mention how the family felt seeing that little boy so happy and enjoying life.
This organization stuck out to me while I was watching Disney Channel and a commercial. (haha YES I watch Disney Channel :) ). Anyways, Disney Channel is a proud sponsor of the MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION! I mean it does make sense. It seems like almost every little kid's dream is to go to disney world!!! This foundation does things above and beyond for children. Sometimes celebrities even step in and help. How GREAT is that!!!!
HOW DO I KNOW THEIR VALUES??
hmmm. I would I say their values speak through their actions.
-Family
-Hope
-Love
-Determination
-Happiness
The MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION is like a genie for children. It makes the most out of their life when are going through a tough battle. One wish will bring happiness, hope, love, and determination to one persons life.
Pretty generic values, right? Well to each person they probably mean something different. So, let me tell you what they mean to me.
I think all of the values listed above make me who I am. I try to be honest with everyone I met. Honesty is the best policy even if it means taking the high road because at the end of the day you know you did the right thing. I give my respect and I hope to receive it in return. One's respect can go a long way. Even if it's just holding the door. I think it takes a lot of courage in life to do what you want. And what I mean by that is sticking up for what you believe in. Be unique, be yourself. It is really important to me, that I am able to balance my life. Everything has it's time and place it just depends how you handle it. Next, is trust. Trust is a BIG one to me. It kind of goes hand and hand with HONESTY! You can't trust someone without their honesty. Trusting people and their opinions is how I go through each and every day. Education is key. Education will improve our world. We need to give people the opportunity to learn and experience the world for themselves. FINALLY, myfamily. I would not be where I am today without my family, especially my dad. My dad has passed along many of his own values to me. My dad keeps me in check with reality. Family is there for you when no one else. I include my friends in my family. I have no idea what I would do without my best friend, Jess. She is always there for me. And it's a good thing that I have so many sisters I can share these values with. My alpha gam sisters are always there too. They are like my second family. I can't imagine my life without AGD, my family, and friends. Those are my main values, well at least the ones I could think of at the moment... :)
On a side note, I wanted to include this video. You may have seen it on an AT&T commercial. But, I really admired Blake and how he pays it forward. HE IMPACTS THE WORLD!
WHO AM I? I don't know how I got to where I am, but I try to live each day like it's my last because the future is still unwritten. WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD! Each and everyone of us! But until then let me tell you about myself
¡Hola! My name is Jennifer, but my friends call me Jenny. My friends would say I am energetic, compassionate and motivated. I am from Marysville, Ohio. It's not too far from here. Through out high school, I was involved in the majority of clubs and a member of the Varsity Cross Country, Swim and Track & Field teams. My favorite being swimming. :) I really like to be involved and get to know people.
Currently, I am a second year at Ohio State. I live with three fabulous roommates (one being in this class)! I have declared a few majors, however I am not sure what I really want to do in life. I have lots of interests and that makes it hard for me to decide what I like best. I am a big fan of THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES! Of course who isn't in the state of Ohio? I like to run or swim in free time. I work at Victoria Secret's PINK!, which does not help my shopping addiction. I have a passion for traveling and observing other cultures. One day I hope to be fluent in Spanish. I am a member of USG (Undergraduate Student Government) where I serve as the associate director of Dining Services. I really like to interact with students and hear their feedback. (So if you have any comments or suggestions, let me know!!) Once a week, I volunteer through the OSU Medical Center too! But the real reason I am in this class in the first place is because I am a member of ALPHA GAMMA DELTA! AGD is my home away from home. Being involved in the greek community here at OSU has given me more opportunities than ever imagined. Only if everyone knew how amazing greek life really is! Enough about my life, let me tell you how I want to change the world.
I really wish I came up of the idea, PAY IT FORWARDbecause it is one of the most brillant ways to impact the world. It shows how one person can change the world just with a little bit of wave. HOW CAN I CHANGE THE WORLD?? hmm... I never really thought about it before. I really wish that people could experience multiple cultures to realize there is something else out there. I believe with education, an education where you learn by doing and seeing, you can do anything. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE WHEN WE BELIEVE! But really in life, I want to impact others with my knowledge and kindness. I want people to think positively about life and wish for the best. I want the fortunate to help the less fortunate. I want everyone to look as each other as equals and most importantly as, FRIENDS! I guess I really can't pinpoint how I want to change the world because I want to do so much in my life. And in reality my life has just begun! All I know at this point is that ONE person can make an impact. As small as an impact on one other persons life or as big as a country and then onto the world. ONE is all it takes. And it is all our responsibility to take the first step.
NOW some photos::: :)
