CITIZENSHIP.
To me citizenship is helping our community in a positive aspect. Helping others in every way is citizenship. Respect even counts too.
Paying forward is a great example of citizenship. It's our way of giving to society.
BUT my biggest link to helping our community is through my membership with Alpha Gamma Delta.
Greek life in general helps out the community a lot through our volunteering and our philanthropy projects.
Alpha Gamma Delta has our annual DODGE for DIABETES dodgeball tournament. The money we raise goes towards The Diabetes Foundation and the AGD Foundation. Another thing we do is help support and volunteer the JDRF (juvenile diabetes research foundation) walk. It's amazing how much we can contribute. I had no idea.
The women in our sorority do many things on our own. I personally volunteer at the OSU Med Center each week. Others may help out younger members with homework or just life. That contributes as well. Together we can accomplish so much!
No act is too big or too small. We should each do our part and serve our community. :)

Panel Reflection
I have to admit, I didn't prepare any questions for class. I was really unsure what the discussion would be about and who would be the panelist. As time went on I began to be more and more interested. Questions were just popping into my head. I wanted to know more. I feel like they were/are great leaders in our community. I wanted to be more like them. This is what I took away from the panel...
1. Growth in the greek community is NOT ALWAYS a good thing. I made a comment about our greek community not being as big as Indiana or Illinois. I thought I wanted a bigger Greek community with more chapters and members. Little did I know all the effects of growth. One of the panelist mentioned that growth can sometimes lead into a negative atmosphere. For example, hazing will be much more of a problem. That is something I do NOT want on our campus. With growth we need to maintain our VALUES.
2. I really liked their enthusiasm. They wanted the best for us and they inspired me. They stressed the points of GETTING INVOLVED and SHOWING UP. I don't know how many times people sign up and then no show. It is so irritating. keep your word please. That way we can all trust and count on each other. AND maybe if we show up others will follow. GET EXCITED. if your excited others will be too. that way everyone will be so much happier. DON'T GIVE UP. you can do it. have faith in yourself and your sisters will support you too. and finally MAKE MEMORIES. that is what this is all about. YOU have to enjoy yourself. have plenty of laughs and smiles. everyone always says THIS IS THE BEST TIME OF YOUR LIFE. so make it that way. have fun :)
3. Jordan Davis ALWAYS inspires me. I feel like she has accomplished so much. I want to be more like her. I feel like she always knows what she is doing and she is so in control. I liked how she said you don't have to be a elected or in a position to make a difference. A lot of the time I don't think people do anything is because they don't feel like they can. but ANYONE can do anything. In fact you would be a GREAT leader by going out of your responsibilities and making a difference. On another note, I was so surprised Jordan was recruitment chair as a sophomore. I don't know if I could handle that. But her sisters trusted that she could do it. How incredible is that. It was also a big risk for her too. I mean she must have felt pressure from the whole sorority to perform well. At the end of it, it made her even stronger and a better leader.
4. finally. the most valuable idea i took away was about holding people accountable. People make mistakes yes but start calling them out. That way they will notice their actions. No one ever feels responsible to tell another sister or brother what they are doing wrong. WE NEED TO. it will benefit all of us and make each and everyone of us better and stronger. We need to have that TOUGH CONVERSATION.

AGD FOR LIFE :)
OATH.
When we were initiated we took an oath to live by our chapter's values. That oath should mean something to us. However, I feel like many of us blow it off. BUT one thing I have learned through this class is that I am not member of Alpha Gamma Delta for just four years; but for LIFE. Tyler always says that he IS a member and not was a member of his fraternity. THAT MEANS we should live by our chapter's values and standards for the rest of our life. That is the oath we took that one day when we were initiated.
The definition of an oath is: a solemn appeal to a deity, or to some revered person or thing, to witness one's determination to speak the truth, to keep a promise, etc.: to testify upon oath. However, the definition means nothing unless you apply it to your life.
To ME an oath is: a promise that you will life your life by living up to your standards, values and chapter's mission. Basically being the best you can be. I think the point of this blog is to show that an oath isn't something temporary. It's a lifetime commitment.
I took an OATH to ALPHA GAMMA DELTA and I will do my best to stay true to it for the rest of my life. I want to be that mom, that grandma telling my kids and grandchildren how great sorority/fraternity life is and how it impacted MY life.

SPREAD THE WORD!
So. I figured I would spread the word through this class. Basically, I am the AD of Dining for Student Life and I am working with the NEW Dining director of OSU. I put together this little survey to gather feedback about the facilities, food, hours of operation and anything else dining. The director really wants some feedback as he is trying to listen to what the students want. So please voice your opinion by completing the survey. THANKS!! :)

Incongruencies.
WE SAY OUR GREAT WE ARE, BUT ARE WE REALLY ALL THAT WE SAY???
NONE OF US ARE PERFECT! Why do we try and act like our chapter is then?
We are incongruent when we::
- miss chapter
- cheat
- disobey purpose/ beliefs and values
- focus on socials more then philanthropy.
The most incongruency would have to be chapters focusing on social events more than their philantrophy events and other community events.
TG's are a lot of fun and we all know that. But why is that we have such high attendance at social events when we barely can get people involved with community projects or other chapters philanthropy events. We need to look past the weekend and try and make a positive difference.
ANOTHER reason to change our behavior is for the outside world; the non-greek world.
they give us stereotypes because that is what we show them. We run around in our TG outfits or we post pictures and we probably talk about them in public. BESIDES the media this is probably why people look down on us. IF we would get more involved and show the community how great we are maybe people would see that too.
It is going to take every member of every chapter to make a difference. ARE YOU WILLING TO CHANGE FOR THE BETTER? DO YOU WANT TO HELP YOUR COMMUNITY? THEN WE NEED TO WORK TOGETHER AND BE RESPONSIBLE AND STICK TO OUR PURPOSES, MISSIONS, & VALUES!!!

Our MISSION
ALPHA GAMMA DELTA is considered a new chapter at OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY at least for one more year. This is our fifth year on campus. I believe we have done an excellent job of spreading our values and mission. However, we are a new chapter which means we still have a lot of work to do. This is who we are and what we stand for....

Mission: Alpha Gamma Delta is an international sorority for women that exists to provide opportunities for personal development through the spirit of Sisterhood.
- We support lifelong learning as a means to gain understanding
- We promote the value of membership and commitment to a higher education
- We help prepare members to contribute to the World's work
- We advocate lifetime involvement in Alpha Gamma Delta
Every chapter is congruent & incongruent to their mission at some point and AGD is no different.

MAKE A WISH!
The Make A Wish Foundation is one of the largest wish granting organizations in the WORLD! The Foundation started with this first wish :
The Make-A-Wish Foundation® traces its beginning to one boy’s wish. In 1980, 7-year-old Chris Greicius was being treated for leukemia. Every day, he dreamed of becoming a police officer.U.S. Customs Officer Tommy Austin had befriended Chris and his mother, Linda Bergendahl-Pauling. He also promised Chris a ride in a police helicopter. When Chris’ health worsened, Austin contacted Ron Cox, an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer, and planned a day that would lift Chris’ spirits. On April 29, 1980, Austin and a caring group of DPS personnel started Chris’ day with a tour of the city in a department helicopter, which also flew him to headquarters. Three cruisers and a motorcycle officer greeted him before his meeting with the DPS command staff. There, Chris was sworn in as the first honorary DPS patrolman in state history.But his experience didn’t stop there. Cox contacted John’s Uniforms, which agreed to make a custom-tailored DPS uniform for Chris. The store owner and two seamstresses worked through the night to finish it. The officers presented the official uniform to Chris on May 1 and arranged a motorcycle proficiency test so he could earn wings to pin on his uniform. Needless to say, Chris passed the test with flying colors on his battery-operated motorcycle.On May 2, Chris was back in the hospital. He asked to arrange the room so he could always see his uniform, his motorcycle helmet and his “Smokey Bear”-style campaign hat. DPS motor officer Frank Shankwitz presented Chris with his motorcycle wings. He accepted them with a smile that lit up the room. The following day, Chris passed away, but not before seeing his dream come true and experiencing the hope, strength and joy that came from receiving his wish.
The foundation is all about lifting spirits and granting wishes to children with life threatening medical conditions. The first wish is just so inspiring knowing that one little boy had his dream come true before died. And not to mention how the family felt seeing that little boy so happy and enjoying life.
This organization stuck out to me while I was watching Disney Channel and a commercial. (haha YES I watch Disney Channel :) ). Anyways, Disney Channel is a proud sponsor of the MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION! I mean it does make sense. It seems like almost every little kid's dream is to go to disney world!!! This foundation does things above and beyond for children. Sometimes celebrities even step in and help. How GREAT is that!!!!
HOW DO I KNOW THEIR VALUES??

The MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION is like a genie for children. It makes the most out of their life when are going through a tough battle. One wish will bring happiness, hope, love, and determination to one persons life.
